Action Alert: ACOG Says Physicians Have Duty to Perform or Refer for Abortions

ACOG Committee Opinion #385

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) issued an opinion statement that could ultimately hinder pro-life physicians from practicing and make it exceedingly difficult for pregnancy centers to find medical directors.

Care Net is urging pregnancy centers to become familiar with ACOG Committee Opinion #385 and take action steps to stop ACOG from moving forward on this opinion.

ACOG's Unconscionable Recommendations

Some of ACOG's outrageous recommendations in ACOG Committee Opinion #385 include:

  • Requiring physicians to refer for abortions or contraception
  • Suggesting that physicians who do not provide abortions should relocate next door to abortion clinics so their patient’s choices are not hindered
  • In the case of an emergency, requiring physicians to perform abortions if requested.
